Changes to Student Tier 4 Category

The UK Border Agency has announced several changes to Tier 4 route for students in the UK.

Students wishing to extend their stay in the UK have to show that they are able to maintain themselves for 2 months. The rules stipulate that students have to show that this money has been in the account for 28 days. A concession has been introduced allowing students in the UK to have the money in their account on the day of the application only.  This concession has been extended until February 2010.

From the 5th October 2009 new students will be tied to their sponsors like other categories in the immigration rules.  If a student wants to change institutions a student must make a new Tier 4 application to the UK Border Agency.  If a student starts to study at a different college the student will be committing a criminal offence.
